Erie Otters News Release
Bowie, Md. - Daniel Fields led the Erie SeaWolves (22-13) offense with a four-hit afternoon as the Howlers completed a 5-2 road trip with a 10-6 win over the Bowie Baysox (14-20) on Mother's Day at Prince George's Stadium.
The win gave the SeaWolves their third series win against the Baysox this season for a record of 7-2 against Bowie and put Erie nine games above .500 for the first time this season.
Erie struck first in the opening inning. Eugenio Suarez scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Tyler Collins to put Erie on the board. The run was matched in the home half of the first inning on Caleb Joseph's RBI single to score Xavier Avery.
Bowie starter Zach Clark (0-1) was put to work by the Erie offense in the second inning. The pitcher making his first start as a knuckleballer threw 42 pitches in the inning as Erie put up four runs to take a 5-1 lead.
Luis Castillo and Marcus Lemon drew back-to-back walks with one out. Zach Maggard was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jamie Johnson, who drew a walk to score Castillo for the go-ahead run. After Suarez lined out to the shortstop, Fields laced a double to right field to drive in Lemon and Maggard. Collins then hit a seeing-eye single through the hole at second that sent Johnson home to give Erie a four-run lead.
The SeaWolves added another run in the fourth on an RBI ground out to third by Collins. Clark departed during the inning, as the Bowie starter gave way to Matt Bischoff after tossing three and a third innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits and six walks.
In the fifth inning, Erie scored three more runs to take a 9-1 lead. James Robbins led off the inning with a double to left field, and scored on Castillo's single to center. Lemon drove Castillo to the plate with his third triple of the season to right field. Maggard hit an RBI ground out to third that allowed Lemon to score and give Erie an eight-run advantage.
Bowie started to chip away at the Erie lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off of starter Kyle Lobstein (5-2). Lobstein departed after five innings, as he allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out four. Michael Morrison relieved Lobstein and gave up two runs in the sixth inning as the Baysox pulled to within 9-5 after six innings.
Erie picked up an insurance run in the ninth as Lemon began the inning by drawing a walk. After Maggard struck out, Erie loaded the bases on back-to-back hits by Johnson and Suarez. Fields hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Lemon to make the score 10-5.
The Baysox matched the run in the ninth off of reliever Justin Souza, but it was not nearly enough as the SeaWolves closed out the road trip with a 10-6 win. Lobstein earned his fourth consecutive win while Clark took the loss.
Fields led the way with his first four-hit game of the season, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Collins also knocked in three runs while Lemon scored three times to lead the Erie offense.
