Tides Take Down Chiefs on Sunday

The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, fell to the Norfolk Tides, 14-1, Sunday afternoon. The Tides scored all but one of its runs in the first five innings en route to the victory.

Norfolk (25-12) scored early and often in the contest. On the first pitch of the game, Jason Pridie launched a home run over the right-center field wall off of Chiefs starter Ryan Perry. With two outs, Danny Valencia hit a solo shot of his own, making the score 2-0. Following a Travis Ishikawa double and L.J. Hoes single, Jonathan Schoop singled in Ishikawa from third base. Trayvon Robinson then singled to plate Hoes, to give the Tides a 4-0 lead after one inning.

In the top of the fourth, the Tides were at it again. Chris Robinson led off the inning with a single and Pridie followed with a walk. After a Yamaico Navarro single, Valencia nailed a bases-clearing double into left field, making the score 7-0.

The top of the fifth began with a leadoff home run by Jonathan Schoop. Following a Trayvon Robinson single, Pridie doubled into right field. The Tides then racked up four run-scoring hits from Navarro, Russ Canzler, Valencia, and Ishikawa to increase the lead to 12-0. Norfolk added one more on a Schoop groundout that scored Valencia from third.

Syracuse (14-22) finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. After a one-out double by Kris Watts, Chris Rahl reached on an infield single that plated Watts from third base.

The Tides put one more on the board in the top of the seventh inning. Trayvon Robinson's run-scoring single in the seventh inning added Norfolk's final run.

The Chiefs and Tides finish their four-game series on Monday afternoon at 12:00. Syracuse left-hander Danny Rosenbaum is set to go against Norfolk's right-hander Jair Jurrjens.
