Savannah, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats 4-1 on Mother's Day to earn a split of the teams' four-game series at Historic Grayson Stadium. With the win, the Braves (20-14) pulled within one game of the Gnats (21-13) for first place in the South Atlantic League Southern Division.

Rome scored first, with a pair of runs, only one of which was earned, against Savannah starter Matt Koch in the third inning.

The Gnats scored their only run of the game when LF Stefan Sabol blasted a solo homerun to leftfield in the third inning, his second long ball of 2013.

Koch, with his pitch count near 90, was limited to four innings. He allowed five hits and two runs, one of which was earned, while striking out four. In 23.1 innings in 2013, he has fanned 20 batters, but has not issued a walk.

The Braves added two runs in the sixth inning. C Tyler Tewell greeted reliever Jake Kuebel with a solo homer. An out later, RF Felix Marte tripled into the right field corner and came home when 2B Jeff Reynolds' throw hit him, and carried into the Braves' dugout.

The Gnats had more errors (4) than hits (3).
