Portland Beats the Rock Cats 3-2

New Britain, CT - On a sunny 2013 Mother's Day afternoon at New Britain Stadium, the Portland Sea Dogs' 23-year-old starting pitcher, Anthony Ranaudo, made his Mom very proud. The 6'7" Boston Red Sox prospect shut down the Rock Cats for six innings today en route to Portland's series-ending 3-2 victory over the 'Cats. . The hard-throwing righty out of LSU was dominant, allowing just three harmless singles while fanning five and raising his W-L record to 5-1.

The Portland offense was led by C Matt Spring who, batting eighth in the Sea Dogs' order, was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day, including a long solo home run in the 2nd frame and an RBI-double in the 4 th.

New Britain starter Logan Darnell went 8 innings, allowed 10 hits and all three Runs. The southpaw struck out 5, but took the loss and saw his W-L record fall to 3-2.

The Rock Cats began a promising comeback against the Portland bullpen in the 8th inning when Mark Sobolewski led with a single and was quickly followed by Josmil Pinto's eighth home run - and 31st and 32nd RBI - of the season. While the blast over the right field fence cut the Portland margin to 3-2, the Rock Cats could get no closer.

New Britain SS Danny Santana had 3 hits and 2 Stolen Bases on the afternoon; Portland reliever Brock Huntzinger picked up his 8th Save of the campaign.

The Rock Cats travel to Bowie, MD for a 3-game series starting on Tuesday night.
