Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - The Quakes were unable to continue their recent hot streak on the road, as they ran into some good pitching on Saturday night, falling to the Lake Elsinore Storm, 7-2 at The Diamond.
Storm starter Matt Jackson (1-1) turned in a solid effort for his first win of the year, while Storm catcher Robert Kral homered for the third time in two games of the series, preventing the Quakes from winning for the sixth time in their last seven road contests.
Quakes' starter Lindsey Caughel made his Cal League debut on Saturday night and was victimized by his own defense, as he wasn't able to hold an early lead.
The Quakes gave Caughel a 1-0 lead in the first, as O'Koyea Dickson struck for a two-out hit, scoring Noel Cuevas.
Jonathan Garcia homered to open the second, giving Rancho a 2-0 advantage.
Two errors in the bottom of the second opened the door for the Storm, with Kral's two-out RBI single capping the three-run inning and giving the Storm a 3-2 lead.
Lake Elsinore extended the lead in the fourth, with Yeison Ascencio chasing home a run with an RBI double, then scoring on Kral's seventh homer of the year and third in two games, putting the Storm up 6-2.
They added another unearned run, their fourth of the night, in the seventh, as Luis Domoromo singled and eventually scored on a Jace Peterson ground ball, capping the scoring at 7-2.
Caughel (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs, three earned, over five innings in his debut.
The Quakes (18-18) will send Jarret Martin (0-5) to the mound on Sunday afternoon, as he'll be opposed by Storm starter James Needy (0-0), with game time slated for 2:05pm.
After this four-game series concludes, the Quakes will take a day off on Tuesday, then return to action at LoanMart Field on Wednesday, May 15th, as they host the San Jose Giants in a four-game home stand. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
