
Otters' Offense Explodes in 8-6 Win over Miners

(PADUCAH, KENTUCKY) "" The Evansville Otters scored four runs in the first inning on their way to an 8-6 win over the Southern Illinois Miners on Saturday night.
Second baseman Frank Martinez and third baseman Steve Marino both hit two-run home runs in the opening inning as Evansville began with the large lead.
The Otters would then strike for three more runs in the third inning including a two-run triple from first baseman Andrew Clark.
Despite a seven run lead, Evansville had to hold on late in order to get the win. Southern Illinois also scored three runs in the third, added another in the fifth and two more runs in the eighth. But, closer Eric Massingham entered the game in the ninth and preserved the 8-6 victory for the Evansville Otters.
In the win, Evansville received two scoreless innings from starting pitcher Matt Zielinski and two more hitless innings from reliever and Rockport native Blake Monar.
Southern Illinois and Evansville will meet again on Tuesday at Rent One Park in Marion, Illinois. It is the final time these teams will meet in the exhibition season. First pitch is set for 10:00 am CDT.
The Evansville Otters regular season starts on Friday, May 17 against the Normal CornBelters . It is Fifth Third Bank Opening Night with a chance for one fan to win $53,000. There will also be gift card giveaways throughout the course of the night and 2,500 magnetic schedules to be distributed at the gate.
