(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Michael Antonio's seventh-inning home run broke a 1-1 tie and the Lexington Legends went on to a 2-1 victory over the West Virginia Power in front of 4,945 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Thursday night.
Dilson Herrera gave West Virginia the lead in the top of the first inning with a solo homer, but the Legends came back to tie the game in the bottom of the first. Singles by Terrance Gore and Bubba Starling, a double steal, and Jin-Ho Shin's sacrifice fly produced the tying run.
The score remained 1-1 until Antonio led off the seventh with his first home run of the season.
Christian Binford (2-2) worked the first seven innings and got the victory. Daniel Hernandez retired the side in order in the eighth, and Alec Mills did the same in the ninth. Mills earned his fifth save in five save opportunities.
The Legends have won seven of their last eight games, and their pitchers have given up only 11 earned runs in the eight-game stretch. Lexington's staff earned run average is 2.82, tied with Hagerstown for best in the South Atlantic League.
Orlando Castro (3-3) took the loss after pitching the first seven innings for West Virginia. He allowed five hits, including Antonio's homer. Antonio also doubled in the fourth inning.
The Legends and Power will play game two of the four-game series Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
