Low-Scoring Affair Favors Legends

(Lexington, KY- May 9, 2013)- The West Virginia Power lost 2-1 to the Lexington Legends on Thursday evening at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Each team scored once in the first and the Legends plated the game's only other run in the bottom of the seventh.

Dilson Herrera hit a 3-1 pitch from Lexington starter Christian Binford over the left field wall in the top of the first to stake West Virginia to a 1-0 lead. It was Herrera's second this season and his 16th run batted in. In the bottom of the first, the Legends evened the score on a bases loaded sacrifice fly off Power starter Orlando Castro.

Each pitcher matched zeros over the next five innings. Binford faced the minimum in the second, third, fifth, and seventh innings, striking out a total of six batters over seven complete. Castro faced the minimum in each inning between the second and sixth, striking out a total of six during his outing.

In the bottom of the seventh, Michael Antonio hit a solo home run to left for a 2-1 Lexington lead. Two Legends relievers retired the final six batters in a row over the final two innings to conclude the game.

Castro (3-3) took the loss while Binford (2-2) notched the win. Alec Mills tossed a perfect ninth for his fifth save. Thursday evening's game was completed in one hour and 43 minutes; ten minutes shorter than the previous team record for a nine-inning game.

The Power and Legends meet again on Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark when John Kuchno faces Colin Rodgers at 7:05 pm.
