North Carolina FC News Release
CARY, NC (May 9, 2013) - The Carolina RailHawks (2W-2T-0L, 8pts) remain tied atop the NASL Season Standings and return to WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, May 11th at 7:00pm ET to face the San Antonio Scorpions (0W-2T-2L, 2pts). In 2012, the RailHawks were bested by the NASL Regular Season Champion Scorpions with a 1W-0T-3L record. Saturday's match will be broadcast live on www.CarolinaRailHawks.com/live.
Despite San Antonio's current sixth place standing in the NASL, RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke knows his side will face a difficult match on Saturday night. "The league is filled with quality teams, from top to bottom and we are expecting another hard fought match this weekend," said Clarke. Every team in the league is entering the weekend knowing the importance of capturing 3 points. Now we have to do our part Saturday night and get those points in front of our home crowd. The fans at WakeMed Soccer Park have been incredible and have continued to be our 12th man."
The RailHawks come into the weekend as one of the two remaining unbeaten NASL teams after last weekend's thrilling 2-2 draw at Minnesota. The newly acquired and former UNC All-American, Enzo Martinez, scored an impressive equalizer in the 84th minute to earn a valuable draw on the road. San Antonio found their scoring form last weekend with two goals in a draw with the Atlanta Silverbacks. Saturday's match will feature the two most active goalkeepers in the NASL. Akria Fitzgerald leads the NASL with 19 saves, followed by the Scorpions' Pat Hannigan, who has registered 15 saves on the season.
The RailHawks continue to boast a roster filled with North Carolina natives and individuals who played collegiately at universities in North Carolina. With the debut of Enzo Martinez last weekend, 11 of the 12 players with North Carolina ties have made appearances in a NASL match.
On Tuesday, U.S. Soccer announced the Second Round pairings in the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with the RailHawks hosting the winner of the Carolina Dynamo and Chattanooga FC on Tuesday, May 21st at 7:00pm. Tickets for the May 21st U.S. Open Cup match will go on-sale to the general public immediately following the conclusion of Saturday's matchup against San Antonio. The 2013 tournament marks the 100th edition of the U.S. Open Cup.
