MODESTO, CA (May 5th, 2013) -- Modesto pushed across three runs to break a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning and worked an easy ninth to defeat the Blaze 6-3 on Sunday afternoon at John Thurman Field.

With the win, the Nuts (12-18) have now won three straight, matching their longest streak of the season.

Blaze reliever Brooks Pinckard struggled with his command in the bottom of the eighth, hitting the first two batters of the inning and walking Ryan Casteel to the load the bases with no outs. Bakersfield then called upon Kyle McMyne to face Tyler Massey, who delivered a go-ahead sac-fly to put the Nuts in front 4-3. With two outs in the inning, Trevor Story gave Modesto some breathing room with a 2-run single to make it 6-3.

Nuts reliever Ken Roberts came on in the ninth and worked a scoreless frame for his first save of the season. Geoff Parker (2-1) took over in the seventh and allowed only one unearned run in two innings of work to pick up his second win of the year. Gagnon loaded the bases in the second with one out, but worked of the jam. Bakersfield had a big two-out hit of their own in the third as Dominic D'Anna drove in a pair of runs with a double to tie the game at two.

Gagnon would cruise through the next three innings, finishing his afternoon allowing just the two earned runs on four hits. Johnson would also go six, giving up three earned on seven hits.

Modesto retook the lead, 3-2, in the fifth as Ribera led off with a double and came around to score the go-ahead run on a two-out single from Featherston. Bakersfield made it a 3-3 game in the seventh as a single and a two-out error from Ribera at first allowed Juan Silverio to score the tying run.
