Lancaster JetHawks News Release

ADELANTO, Calif. - The JetHawks rallied back from a four-run deficit to beat the High Desert Mavericks, 8-7, in the series finale on Monday night at Mavericks Stadium.

A handful of players contributed as Lancaster fought back to split the series and stay atop the South Division.

The comeback began in the sixth inning with the score 5-1. Matt Duffy tripled in Andrew Aplin and later scored on a Telvin Nash groundball to cut High Desert's lead in half.

In the seventh, Duffy contributed again with a two-out single to drive in Nolan Fontana.

Lancaster rallied to tie the game in the eighth inning. With two outs, Brandon Meredith was hit by Seon Gi Kim fastball. Raoul Torrez entered as a pinch-runner and Rodney Linares decided to pinch-hit Chris Epps for Carlos Perdomo.

Epps knocked a triple high off the centerfield fence to score Torrez from first base and tie the game. The JetHawks would go on to load the bases but Aplin flew out to end the inning.

Tandem starter Brady Rodgers (3-1) took the mound for the eighth inning after tossing scoreless innings in the previous two frames and gave up a leadoff triple to Jabari Blash. Michael Dowd followed with a fly ball to right field. Preston Tucker made the catch and Blash attempted to tag up. Tucker tossed a throw into to the plate on one-hop and Tyler Heineman applied the tag for the out. Rodgers retired the next batter to send the game to the ninth.

High Desert closer Stephen Shackleford, who had not allowed an earned run in 14 appearances, took the mound for High Desert and gave up a one-out hit to Tucker. After striking out Nash, Heineman came to plate.

Heineman hit a double down the left field line to score Tucker and put the JetHawks ahead. Torrez followed with a single to drive in Heineman and the JetHawks would add another run later in the inning on an error.

Travis Ballew allowed a two-run home run to Dan Paolini in the bottom of the ninth but picked up his fifth save when he got Blash to ground out to end the game.

The JetHawks (18-12) return to The Hangar on Tuesday to take on the Lake Elsinore Storm in the first game of an eight game homestand. David Rollins will start and will be followed by Tyson Perez. First pitch is at 7:00 pm.
