Beloit Sky Carp News Release
LANSING, MI - Matt Olson had a perfect day at the dish, going three-for three, knocking in two and scoring twice to lead the Beloit Snappers to a 6-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts in Midwest League action on Monday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Beloit is now 15-13 after taking two out of three in the series and four of six on this road trip. Another defeat on Lansing's ledger leaves them at 9-19.
The scoring started in the second, as both teams traded single runs in that frame and then again in the third. The Snappers got their runs on RBI singles by Christopher Bostick and Rashun Dixon (2-4, HR, 3 RBI, run), while a Carlos Ramirez RBI double and a Christian Lopes (1-3, 2 RBI) sacrifice fly accounted for the Lugnuts' scores.
In the fifth, Olson and Dixon each struck big blows to put Beloit ahead for good. A walk and a double got the rally started and Olson hit a ball to center field that fell in for a single and two RBIs. Dixon followed by stroking a two-run homer, his first as a Snapper, and the lead went to 6-2.
Lansing cut into that deficit right away when Lopes tapped an RBI single into left in the inning's bottom half. Beloit starter Seth Streich (3-1) pitched a scoreless sixth and then departed, having not walked a batter and struck out five.
The Lugnuts used an unearned run in the seventh to creep to within 6-4, but Ryan Dull came in in the eighth to close it out for the Snappers and he did just that. Dull struck out the side in the eighth and K'ed two more in a perfect ninth as he notched his fourth save.
The Snappers will take a day off before returning to the confines of Pohlman Field to host the Peoria Chiefs in a three game series. The series opener will feature the pitching match-up of RHP Josh Lucas (0-1, 12.46 ERA) for Peoria and RHP Derek DeYoung (1-1, 3.66 ERA) for Beloit. Be sure to check out the Snappers Facebook page and Twitter account to vote on special offers that will be available at the game as part of Social Media Wednesday.
