Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (6-1-1), back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, were stunned with a 6-0 loss to the Idaho Steelheads (6-3-1) on Friday night in Boise to tie the series 2-2.

The Steelheads were unstoppable taking an early lead and continuing to add tallies for 60 minutes of play.

Austin Smith opened the scoring at 7:30 in the first period beating JF Berube five-hole after bringing the puck around the front of the crease. Chase Shaber and Brett Robinson initiated the play and each earned assists.

About three minutes later, a weird bounce off the stantions caught Berube out of position and was redirected into the open net. The shot came from Patrick Cullity giving the Steelheads a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period.

Tyler Gron received a pass from Jace Coyle and brought it up the slot. He decked through three Reign skaters and wristed the puck stick side past Berube.

In the second period the Steelheads kept the pressure on scoring two more times. Gron lit the lamp again to give Idaho a 4-0 lead. The forward squeezed the puck between the pads and post at 10:25. At 19:03, Justin Taylor out-skated the Reign's defense and propelled Idaho to a 5-0 lead heading into the third.

Ontario was desperate for a third period comeback as they have done throughout the playoffs thus far, but didn't have enough to make it happen.

In the final marker of the game, the Reign's defense juggled the puck and Austin Fyten plucked it from between a Reign skater's skates and fired a shot past Chris Carrozzi - who was sent into relieve Berube for the final 20 minutes. David de Kastrozza assisted the final two goals.

Idaho's Josh Robinson earned the win stopping all 29 Reign shots; Berube took the loss with 13 saves on 18 shots. Carrozzi has eight saves on nine shots by the time the final horn sounded.

Three Stars: 1. IDH - Josh Robinson 2. IDH - Tyler Gron 3. IDH - Patrick Cullity
