Aces Fall to Thunder 5-3 in Game Three, Trail Series 2-1

Matt Bergland had two goals and an assist and was part of a first period assault the helped the Stockton Thunder beat the Alaska Aces 5-3 on Thursday night in Game Three of the Western Conference Semifinals from Stockton Arena. The Thunder now lead the best-of-seven series 2-1. Alaska is now trailing in a series for the first time in the 2013 playoffs, but has a chance to even the series on Friday night. Game 4 between the Aces and Thunder will be played at 6:30pm AKT, and will be broadcast live from Stockton on NewsTalk 103.7FM and 750AM KFQD or on television on GCI Channel 1. The Aces opened the game with an immediate goal as Zach Harrison scored on a redirection at 2:28 to give Alaska a 1-0 lead. The Thunder answered loudly with three goals in 3:57. Matt Bergland started the rally with his first goal of the night at 5:09 to even the score at 1-1. Less than a minute later Maxime Boisclair scored his first of the postseason at 5:58 to give the Thunder their first lead of the night. Bergland scored his second of the game on a rebound at 9:06 to extend the Thunder lead and force an Aces goaltending change. Mark Guggenberger was pulled for Gerald Coleman and the Aces got a goal back late in the frame. Bobby Hughes scored his ECHL-leading, ninth goal of the playoffs at 16:03 to cap the five-goal period. Alaska outshot Stockton 14-11 in the period.
Andrew Clark scored the only goal of the second period to give Stockton a 4-2 lead after two periods. Alaska outshot Stockton 11-9 in the middle frame.
Stockton opened up their largest lead of the night when Harrison Reed scored at 7:46 of the third period to make it 5-2 Thunder. Alaska cut into the deficit when Andy Taranto scored in his return to the lineup at 9:26, but the Aces could not get any further. Stockton held on for the 5-3 win to take the lead in the series.
Gerald Coleman (3-3) took the loss in relief, after making 20 saves on 22 shots. Mark Guggenberger (2-0) did not figure into the decision, making 4 saves on 7 shots. Olivier Roy (6-4) made 29 saves on 32 shots and earned the win. The Aces went 0-2 on the power play, while the Thunder went 0-3. The Aces outshot the Thunder 32-29 in the game.
Game 4 between the Aces and Thunder is Friday night at 6:30pm AKT, and Game 5 is Sunday at 5:00pm AKT. Both games will be broadcast live from Stockton on NewsTalk 103.7FM and 750AM KFQD or on television on GCI Channel 1.
