The Cincinnati Cyclones used three third period goals to post a 3-2 win in Game 1 of the ECHL Eastern Conference Semi-Finals on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Cincinnati now leads the best-of-seven series one-game-to-none.
Gwinnett took a 1-0 lead in the second period on Dallas Jackson's first post season goal on the power play. Jackson ripped a shot from the left wing point that was deflected by a Cyclones defenseman past Michael Houser 2:32 into the stanza. Sacha Guimond and Doug Jones both picked up an assist on the play.
Cincinnati posted the first of their three third period goals just 37 seconds into the frame with a marker by Trevor Lewis. Lewis beat Gwinnett netminder Louis Domingue over the shoulder from the right wing circle for the marker. Chris Reed had an assist on the goal.
Gwinnett took the lead back 24 second later with a goal by Domenic Monardo. The tally came from the left wing face-off circle as he beat Houser for the goal. Justin Bowers and Joey Haddad each earned a helper on the marker.
The Gladiators couldn't hold the lead as Justin Vaive and David Pacan answered to give the Cyclones a 3-2 lead before the midway mark of the period. The go-ahead goal proved to the be game-winner for Gwinnett.
Domingue finished with 22 saves for the Gladiators in the loss as the two teams square off again in Game 2 of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Semi-Finals on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 6:05 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
