Braves 1B Freeman to Rehab at Knights Stadium

(Fort Mill, SC) - Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, who is currently on the disabled list recovering from a sprained right oblique, will begin a rehab assignment for the Gwinnett Braves during tonight's 7:15 p.m. game against the Charlotte Knights at Knights Stadium. Freeman is also expected to play for the Braves during tomorrow's 7:15 p.m. game at Knights Stadium.

Freeman, 23, was hitting .412 with one home run and seven RBIs over five games this season before being placed on the disabled list on April 7. The Fountain Valley, CA native hit .259 last season with 23 home runs and 94 RBIs for the Braves. He also added 33 doubles, two triples, 64 walks, and two stolen bases.

Originally drafted by the Braves in the 2nd round of the 2007 draft, Freeman enjoyed a solid rookie campaign in 2011. In a career-high 157 games, he compiled a .282 batting average with 21 home runs and 76 RBIs. Freeman finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting to teammate Craig Kimbrel.

Each Friday game this season features a special retro theme for "Flashback Fridays". The first 1,000 fans will receive a throwback Knights pennant as they enter Knights Stadium tonight. Saturday's game features post-game fireworks, courtesy of BB&T Ballpark and News Talk 1110 WBT. The Knights Dance Team - The KnightinGals are also scheduled to perform on Saturday.
