TONIGHT:

The Ontario Reign (4-0-0) will face off against their Western Conference rival, Idaho Steelheads (4-1-1) for Round 2 of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Reign went 4-5-0-0 against the Steelheads this season and were outscored 32 to 29 with both a shutout win and a shutout loss.

The rivalry really ignited last season when their playoff series was pushed to five games in a best-of-five series. The Steelheads rolled the Reign with a 5-0 win and went on to advance to the second round where they lost to the Las Vegas Wranglers 4-1 in the Western Conference semifinals.

HOW THEY RANK:

By the end of 2012-13 Ontario had earned their 3rd Division Title, ranked 2nd in the Western Conference, and were tied for 2nd overall in the league with a club record 99 points. The Steelheads came in 2nd in the Mountain Division, 3rd in the Western Conference and finished 6th in the league with 97 points.

ROUND 1 RECAP:

The Reign swept their best-of-seven series against the Utah Grizzlies winning four games to none. In the first two games, Ontario made a statement winning 5-2 and 7-2 at home. Records fell in the 7-2 win as Stretch scored four goals for a Reign record and accomplished something that hadn't been done in an ECHL playoff game since 1999. The next two games in Utah were decided in overtime with the Reign winning both games 2-1.

The Steelheads faced the Eagles in the first round and came out on top winning four games to two. Four of the six games were decided by just one goal; three of which in overtime. Game six, the final of the series, was decided in overtime with a 3-2 Steelheads win.

GONE FISHIN':

The Reign will look to continue their strong penalty killing, which is at 100% after giving up 15 chances, and improve their power-play as they have just three power-play goals on 21 opportunities.
