Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, have signed RHP William C. Scott II.
The Cleveland native split his time in 2012 between the Eugene Emeralds in Oregon and the Tucson Padres. He chalked up 45 strike outs in just over 61 innings pitched.
Scott was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 32nd round of the 2010 First-Year-Player Draft out of Walters State Community College in Tennessee. He had been selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 26th round of the 2009 and by the Colorado Rockies in the 32nd round of the 2008 draft, but he did not sign.
"We are very excited to add Will to our roster. The Padres thought enough of his performance last season to give him a shot at AAA baseball, which is a sign of their confidence in his pitching ability," said Bart Zeller, the Wild Things' Field Manager. "He is not a true strikeout pitcher; however, his ratio of strikeouts to walks was 2.5 to 1 in affiliated baseball which is outstanding. Will's role will be as a starter or as a late inning guy who will set up for our closer. We are looking forward to good things from Will this spring.
The Wild Things will host the Southern Illinois Miners on May 24th for the team's home opener. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets or more information call or stop by the CONSOL Energy Park box office or log onto www.washingtonwildthings.com .
