RedHawks Sign Pineda and Hess

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed INF Ryan Pineda and RHP Tyler Hess, the club has announced. Both players will be in Fargo when training camp opens on May 4.

Pineda, 24, joins the RedHawks after spending the past three seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization. He split time last season between the Stockton Ports of the California League (High-A) and the Burlington (IA) Bees of the Midwest League (A).

With Stockton, Pineda batted .249 with 18 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 28 RBIs and 25 runs scored in 71 games. At Burlington, he batted .215 with three doubles, one triple, one home run, seven RBIs and five runs scored in 23 games.

In his three-year career, Pineda has batted .241 with 48 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 72 RBIs and 85 runs in 208 games. Mainly a second baseman, Pineda has also seen time third base, shortstop and corner outfield positions. He was drafted in the 28th round by Oakland in 2010 out of California State University Northridge.

Hess, 24, spent last season in the San Francisco Giants organization. He was 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 15 games for the Arizona League Giants, and 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in four games with the Augusta (GA) Greenjackets of the South Atlantic League (A). Between the two stops, Hess struck out 26 batters in 24.1 innings pitched.

Hess was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves organization in the 19th round of the 2010 draft out of Sonoma State University (CA). In his three-year career, he is 4-8 with a 4.05 ERA and nine saves in 58 games. Hess has struck out 99 batters in 104.1 innings pitched.
