Red Bull New York News Release
WASHINGTON D.C. "" Goals from Thierry Henry and Jamison Olave helped give the New York Red Bulls a 2-0 win over rival D.C. United at RFK Stadium Saturday night. New York's first road victory of 2013 helped the Red Bulls improve to eight points off a 2-3-2 record and moved them into a tie for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Red Bulls went ahead in the 29th minute. Dax McCarty drove the ball towards United's defensive third and found Henry. Henry created space for himself and his shot from 25-yards out bounced past goalkeeper Bill Hamid and into the back of the net.
Five minutes later, Tim Cahill nearly put the Red Bulls 2-0 up, forcing Hamid into making a stellar save from a close-range header off a Henry cross.
The Red Bulls though did find the back of the net moments after. Juninho played a short corner kick and then got the ball back on the left wing, whipping it into the box. Brandon Barklage flicked it on and Olave used his thigh to redirect the ball into the goal.
New York goalkeeper Luis Robles came up big in the 72nd minute, going down to parry a Dwayne De Rosario free kick before blocking Chris Pontius' rebound. Henry nearly had his second of the match, hitting the right post with a low drive with nine minutes left.
New York's returns to Red Bull Arena for a two-match homestand on Wednesday, April 17 as it battles Sporting Kansas City at 7:30 PM. For tickets, call 1.877.RBSOCCER or log onto www.newyorkredbulls.com.
