Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release

HAMILTON - Hamilton Tiger-Cats offensive lineman Marwan Hage is taking his Hage's Heroes community initiative to new territory this week, as the CFL All-Star and philanthropist will join Guelph-based non-profit relief organization Speroway on a goodwill mission to El Salvador.

Speroway is an international non-profit relief organization responding to the needs of children and their families around the world, by providing food, medicine, education and other essentials. Hage has previously teamed up with Speroway for food drives in Hamilton and Moncton.

During his three-day visit to El Salvador, Hage and representatives from Speroway will visit the capital city of San Salvador to assist with a food distribution program and a medical mission.

Hage will continue to organize events to benefit the Hamilton community this season and has committed to hosting a food drive in Guelph later this year in conjunction with Speroway.

"I am beyond thrilled and honoured to join Speroway on their latest trip to deliver relief to those in need across the world. It has always been my goal to expand Hage's Heroes to new locations, but I never imagined that we would have the chance to assist internationally in addition to the work we do in Hamilton. I would like to thank Bob Young, Scott Mitchell and the Tiger-Cats organization for helping Hage's Heroes fulfill these incredible opportunities and allow us to inspire future generations of Hamiltonians," said Hage.

Hage's Heroes has welcomed over 5,000 underprivileged youth to Tiger-Cats home games, fed over 6,000 families through food drives and made numerous donations to local charities since its inception in 2007. Hage was honoured with the Canadian Football League's Tom Pate Award in 2009 in recognition of his contributions to the community.
