Cooper Goal Lifts FC Dallas in 90th Minute

March 17, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Houston Dynamo FC News Release

Kenny Cooper scored a game-winning goal in the 90th minute to give FC Dallas a 3-2 win after a dramatic Houston Dynamo comeback on Sunday afternoon at FC Dallas Stadium. The victory in the lone regular season game this year between the Texas rivals secures El Capitán for FC Dallas for the first time since 2010.

After FC Dallas led 2-0 into the 79th minute, the Dynamo staged a late comeback keyed by substitutes Andrew Driver, Brian Ching and Cam Weaver.

Driver, making his MLS debut after joining the Dynamo in February, entered the game in the 69th minute and scored his first Dynamo goal ten minutes later. Kofi Sarkodie stole the ball inside the Dallas penalty area and found Driver with a pass at the top of the box. Driver settled the ball and drove a shot through a wall of Dallas defenders and off the underside of the crossbar for a goal.

Four minutes later, Weaver drove down the right flank and played a low cross along the edge of the six-yard box, where it was met by Driver and FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez. The rebound fell to Brad Davis at the penalty spot, and he buried his shot into the upper corner for a dramatic equalizing goal.

It was Davis' 33rd goal in all competitions with the Dynamo. He passed Dwayne De Rosario and is now second on the franchise list (Brian Ching, 69).

Cooper, returning to the Texas Derby for the first time since 2009, netted the game-winner in the 90th minute, settling a cross from Michel before slotting a shot past Tally Hall for a 3-2 win.

FC Dallas took a 2-0 lead into halftime after George John flicked a header into the goal off a free kick. A minute later, Andrew Jacobsen volleyed a corner kick into the net for a two-goal lead.

Bobby Boswell started the game and surpassed 20,000 regular season minutes for his nine-year MLS career. Boswell has played at least 26 games and 2,200 minutes in seven of his eight full seasons.

It was also Davis' 175th regular season start with the Dynamo. He is the all-time franchise leader.

The Dynamo have scored four goals in two regular season games this season and all four goals have occurred after the 75th minute. The club set a franchise record with 17 late goals (76th minute or later) in 2012.

The Dynamo will host the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. CT and tickets are still available at HoustonDynamo.com.

Next Match: Saturday, March 23, 7:30 p.m. CT, Houston Dynamo vs. Vancouver Whitecaps, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, TX
