Screaming Eagles Claw Back against Saint John

SYDNEY, NS - The Saint John Sea Dogs dropped a 3-2 contest against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Sunday afternoon in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Maxime Villemaire scored shorthanded and Michael Abbott nabbed a single as Alex Fournier stopped 18 of 21 shots. Saint John fell to 23-41-1-0 in the loss.

Zachary Moody, Charles-Eric Légaré and Jonathan Oligny replied to give the Screaming Eagles the victory. Alex Bureau had 18 saves on 20 shots between the pipes as Cape Breton climbed to 14-43-3-5 in the win.

Villemaire opened the scoring for Saint John with a shorthanded goal at 9:05. MacKenzie Brown made the play to get Villemaire the puck as the over-ager put home his 20th of the season.

With less than 30 seconds in the first, Cape Breton got things evened up as they converted with the man advantage. Moody beat Fournier at 19:31 to make it 1-1.

The middle frame was scoreless until Saint John broke the deadlock again, taking their turn at scoring in the final minute of the period. Abbott fired home a point shot for his fifth of the season at 19:31 of the second to give the Dogs a 2-1 lead. Pierre Durepos and Jakub Izacky had assists on the power play marker.

Légaré used the Screaming Eagle two-man advantage to tie up the game yet again. The young Eagle knotted things up at 10:22.

Oligny gave the Screaming Eagles their first lead of the game at 13:56 as the Dogs found themselves a man down again.

The Sea Dogs pulled Fournier for the extra man with less than a minute to go, but couldn't force overtime.
