Sell out Crowd Goes Home Happy

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs sent the sellout crowd of 6,488 home happy with a 2-1 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in Friday's Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Stephen Anderson and Maxime Villemaire each scored and Sebastien Auger turned in another great performance with 44 saves. Saint John climbed to 23-40-1-0.

Patrik Zdrahal scored the lone marker in the loss and Jacob Brennan stopped 36 shots as the Titan fell to 25-32-5-2.

Pierre Durepos, Ian Saab and Maxime Villemaire were honoured in a pre-game ceremony as Sea Dogs President Wayne Long presented their jerseys at centre ice.

The first period saw no scoring, but lots of physical play late in the frame. First, Anderson laid out Olivier Houle near the Bathurst bench. Jason Cameron then had a run in with a Titan forward, coming out on top of a collision in the Sea Dogs corner. Villemaire then flattened Michael Beaudry near centre ice with a crushing hit with less than a minute to go in the frame.

Shots in the first were 16-10 for the Titan.

The best chance of the period for Saint John came as Matthew Highmore fed a pass to Andreas Tsogkas in front of the net just before the six-minute mark of the second.

Bathurst had a long 2-man advantage and Auger came up with a huge save with 4:15 to go in frame to keep the second scoreless.

All three goals of the game were potted in the third.

Zdrahal gave the Titan the opening goal, beating a sliding Auger at 7:02, the only puck they could get past the Dogs netminder.

Anderson evened things up 8:05. He knocked the Titan clearing attempt down in the slot and fired a low wrist shot past Brennan for the equalizer with his 12th of the year.

Villemaire scored his 11th of the season at 13:04 to give the Sea Dogs their first lead of the game and the eventual game-winner.

Durepos dove and put his stick in front of Zach O'Brien to make a clutch save with less than four minutes to go in the contest. The save kept the one-goal lead as a scramble ensued in front of the net, keeping the score 2-1, the game's final score.
