Bridgewater, NJ- The Five- Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Jon Hunton.

The North Plainfield, New Jersey native has experience in the Chicago Cubs and Oakland A's organizations, including a season at both the Double-A and Triple-A level.

Hunton joined Somerset late during the team's championship run in 2008 and appeared in eight games. After his time with the Patriots, Hunton signed with the A's, where he spent the next two seasons.

He split last season between Grand Prairie of the American Association and the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. Hunton was 7-2 with a 1.76 ERA, 25 saves, and 47 strikeouts in 51.0 innings pitched in 49 games. He helped the Ducks win a championship last season, joining the team late in the season and appeared in three games with the team.

He has a minor league career 37-28 record, a 3.33 ERA, 83 saves, and 465 strikeouts in 483.2 innings pitched in 397 games, all in relief.

"We've had the pleasure of Jon playing for us before and his success here led to him signing with the Oakland A's after the season. We are excited to have him back in Somerset playing close to home once again," said Brett Jodie, manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

Hunton was acquired in a trade with Long Island in return for reliever T.J. Hose.

The 2013 season presented by Ford will begin at home on Thursday, April 18th at 7:05 pm. For more information about the upcoming season, call (908) 252-0700 or visit www.somersetpatriots.com .
