Atlanta Gladiators News Release


The Gwinnett Gladiators remain in first place in the ECHL's South Division with 67 points and sit two points ahead of the second place Greenville Road Warriors. Gwinnett picked up two points last week as they posted a 1-2-0-0 record. The Gladiators have earned a 32-21-2-1 record on the year.

Florida Preview: Gwinnett is now 2-3-0-0 against the Everblades after dropping a pair of games against Florida last weekend. The Gladiators (67) are just four points ahead of the Everblades (63) in the South Division. Florida has won their last three games and is 6-2-1-1 in their last 10 games. The Everblades play 13 of their remaining 19 games at home. Florida is led in scoring by Mathieu Roy who has notched a team best 57 points off of 23 goals and 34 assists. While with the Everblades, Rob Madore has posted a team best 2.88 goals against average and a .913 save percentage in 11 games with Florida this season.

Orlando Preview: Gwinnett is 6-1-0-0 against the Solar Bears this season. Orlando's only win in the season series came in the last meeting between the two teams, a 4-3 win at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on January 25th. The Solar Bears have lost two straight, both at the Amway Center, and are 4-5-0-1 in their last 10 games. The Solar Bears are led in scoring by Matthew Sisca who has notched 42 points off of 13 goals and 29 assists in 54 games this season. Ryan Cruthers and C.J. Severyn each share the team lead with 17 goals on the season.

Friday, February 15th, Gwinnett 6, Wheeling 5 - W

The Gladiators overcame a two-goal third period deficit to post the 6-5 win over the Wheeling Nailers. After Wheeling extended their lead to two goals 2:34 into the third period, Joey Haddad answered for Gwinnett just 20 seconds later to pull Gwinnett back within a goal. Justin Bowers tied the game at 5-5 and then Cody Brookwell scored the game-winning goal for Gwinnett at 6:52 of the third period. Louis Domingue finished with 19 saves in the win for Gwinnett and Casey Pierro-Zabotel had a four-point (1g, 3a) night for the Gladiators.

Saturday, February 16th, Florida 4, Gwinnett 3 - L

The Florida Everblades broke a 2-2 tie with 13 minutes left in the third period with a shorthanded goal from Matt Pistilli. Florida led 1-0, but Casey Pierro-Zabotel answered for Gwinnett just 32 seconds into the second period. The Everblades again took the lead, this time at 5:20 of the second, but Nick Walsh responded for Gwinnett ten minutes later. The Everblades added an empty net goal for a two-goal lead before Evan Bloodoff pulled Gwinnett within one goal with just two seconds left in the third.

Sunday, February 17th, Florida 3, Gwinnett 1 - L

The Gladiators and Everblades exchanged goals in the first period with Joey Haddad pulling the Gladiators back even with his 11th goal of the season midway through the first. A pair of second period goals by the Everblades within two minutes of each other late in the period was the difference. Aaron Bogosian gave the Everblades the lead with five minutes left in the third and Corey Trivino, on a penalty shot, pushed the lead to 3-1. Gwinnett outshot the Everblades 40-25 in the contest including a 16-3 advantage in the final period.

News & Notes:

Multiples: Gladiators forward Doug Jones had two assists in Saturday night's 4-3 loss to the Florida Everblades. For the rookie, it was his 11th multiple point game of the season and his fourth two-assist game of the season. He has not notched a three-point night yet this season with Gwinnett.

Tops: Forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel notched another points in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Everblades and now hast 62 points on the year. He currently leads the ECHL in scoring with 62 points off of 17 goals and 45 assists in 56 games this season. He is three points ahead of Utah's Mitch Wall who has 59 points off of 19 goals and 40 assists for the Grizzlies this season.

Back from the A: Forward Evan Bloodoff has his sixth multiple point game of the season in Saturday night's 4-3 loss to the Florida Everblades. It was Bloodoff's second game back with Gwinnett after being re-assigned from AHL Portland earlier this week. The Nelson, British Columbia native has points in each of his last two games since being re-assigned from the AHL. Bloodoff has notched 13 goals and 15 assists to rank third (Jones - 42; Guimond - 35) in scoring among Gladiators rookies with 28 points.

On the Plus Side: Despite dropping a 4-3 decision to the Florida Everblades Saturday night, defenseman Corey Fienhage notched a +1 plus/minus rating with Gwinnett last night. The Apple Valley, Minnesota native has now earned a +19, plus/minus ranking on the season and leads Gwinnett in that category. He has been even or better in 39 of 50 games this season with Gwinnett.

Eight Straight: Forward Casey-Pierro Zabotel notched an assist in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Florida Everblades. For the forward, it extended his point-scoring streak to a team season high eight games. Pierro-Zabotel has notched four goals and 10 assists for 14 points for Gwinnett in the past eight games.
