Pats vs Swift Current Gameday Preview
February 15, 2013 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
Game #58
Friday, February 15th
Puck Drop: 7:00 p.m.
Regina Pats (20-31-3-3) Swift Current Broncos (27-25-3-3)
Head-to-Head
It's the sixth time the Pats and Broncos have tangoed this season. The Pats hold a 1-2-2-0 record against Swift Current to this point of the campaign. Their last meeting needed extra time with Adam Lowry scoring the overtime winner in the 5-4 Bronco win. Lane Scheidl and Dyson Stevenson both lead the Pats with five points each and nine assists between them. Morgan Klimchuk has been carrying the goal scoring load with four tallies in the season series. Three Broncos (Graham Black, Colby Cave and Ryon Moser) sit at five points in the five games between Regina and Swift Current. The Pats come into tonight's game looking to rebound after a loss against Medicine Hat while the Broncos have dropped two straight including a 3-1 loss to Prince Albert in their last game. Tonight's game will be broadcast on 620 CKRM starting with the Press Box Sports Bar Pre-Game Show at 6:35 p.m.
Lead Up: Doty's Winner Sinks Pats in 4-3 Loss
Hunter Shinkaruk lifted the Tigers to a 3-1 lead in the third period, but it would be short-lived as the Pats stormed back with goals forty seconds apart just one minute after Shinkaruk's marker. Marc McCoy and Morgan Klimchuk scored to even the game. That deadlock would be equally short-lived as Jacob Doty slipped in behind the defence and restored the Tigers lead for good, leading to the Pats' 4-3 defeat.
Sasktel Blanket Night
Lucky fans in attendance at tonight's game will receive a blanket, courtesy of Sasktel with sponsors Saskatchewan Credit Unions and the Children's Make-a-Wish Foundation. Fans should arrive early to get their blankets.
Footlong Friday
In addition to 2-for-1 walk-up tickets at the Brandt Centre Box Office for tonight's game, come down to the rink for Footlong Hot Dogs! They're only $4.00 all night at Brandt Centre concessions.
Close Games
Every game of the Pats and Broncos season series has been decided by one goal. Three of the five contests have required overtime to reach a decision, but the two teams have yet to take each other to the shootout to end a game.
Rookies Contributing
A pair of 16-year old Pats have found their way onto the scoresheet recently. Defenceman Griffin Mumby has assists in back to back games for the first time in his career while Adam Brooks has three points (2G, 1A) in his last five games.
