Everett Silvertips News Release

KELOWNA, BC - The Kelowna Rockets' powerplay unit carried the day for the second consecutive game as the Everett Silvertips suffered a 4-1 Valentine's Day road defeat Thursday night at Prospera Place. The 'Tips will now look to snap their winless streak with back-to-back home games against Spokane and Seattle on Friday and Saturday at Comcast Arena.

Landon Oslanski notched Everett's only goal, which came in strange fashion via a lengthy video review after what appeared to be the end of the second period. Kelowna's three powerplay goals on five chances proved too much to overcome however, as the Silvertips went 0 for 3 on their own man-advantage.

Shots on goal and scoring chances were in short supply early in the opening period before the Rockets took the lead on their first powerplay. Ryan Olsen tipped in a long wrist shot by Myles Bell at 9:01 to provide the only scoring of the period as Kelowna outshot Everett 7-5 in the first 20 minutes.

The score remained 1-0 through most of the second period before JT Barnett picked off a pass in Everett's defensive zone and slipped a quick shot under Daniel Cotton's right pad from the high slot, giving the Rockets a 2-0 edge. The Silvertips had a few quality chances later in the session, but appeared to trail 2-0 at the horn when a lengthy video review actually revealed that Landon Oslanski's booming slapshot with 31 seconds left in the period actually went through the back of the net. The goal was awarded and Everett trailed by just one after 40 minutes.

Kelowna's powerplay went back to work in the third however, as back-to-back Everett penalties gave the Rockets a two-man advantage that resulted in a rebound goal for Colton Sissons at 7:11. Ryan Olsen iced the victory with another powerplay goal later in the period as Kelowna outshot the 'Tips 13-6 in the third period on their way to the 4-1 triumph.

Daniel Cotton (9-15-0-2) took the loss for Everett in goal, stopping 27 Kelowna shots. Jackson Whistle (13-2-1-0) won his second straight over the Silvertips and the Rockets finished the night with a 31-21 shot edge.

Everett will now return home for a pair of U.S. Division games this weekend at Comcast Arena. The Silvertips play host to the Spokane Chiefs Friday at 7:35 pm for the sixth meeting of the year between the teams. The 'Tips will then battle the rival Seattle Thunderbirds for the eighth time this season Saturday at 7:05 pm on our 2013 "Navy Night".
