Saint John Falls in Gagné Homecoming

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs met Kevin Gagné and the Rimouski Oceanic in Sunday's Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. RImouski took the contest by a score of 8-2 in front of 4,221 fans at Harbour Station.

Connor Donaghey scored his first QMJHL goal and Oliver Cooper tallied as well in the Sea Dogs loss. Sebastien Auger made 26 saves on 32 shots in two periods of play, before giving way to Alex Fournier. Fournier stopped 12 of 14 in relief as the Sea Dogs fell to 20-32-1-0.

Peter Trainor had a pair of goals and a trio of assists to lead Rimouski over the Sea Dogs. Alexandre Lavoie had a hat-trick and added an assist and former Sea Dogs defenceman Kevin Gagné has a goal and an assist in his return to Harbour Station. Frederik Gauthier had two goals and Francis Beauvillier tallied three assists as Robin Gusse made 15 of 17 saves in the Rimouski victory. The Oceanic climbed to 36-12-1-5.

The Harbour Station crowd saluted Gagné in a pre-game ceremony with a standing ovation following a tribute to the former Sea Dogs d-man.

Saint John drew first blood on the power play as Olivier LeBlanc unleashed a blast from the point that Cooper got his stick on in front to tip it past Gusse at 5:40 of the first.

Auger got some help from his friend the crossbar at the nine-minute mark. At 9:01, as the Oceanic had a man-advantage, Trainor tied the game at 1-1. Gagné set up the play for his first point in Harbour Station, not in a Sea Dogs uniform.

The Oceanic tallied two more with the extra man in the opening frame. Lavoie beat Auger, finishing off a sharp passing play at 14:18. Gauthier converted at 15:46 to make it 3-1 Oceanic.

Shots in the first period were 15-6 in favour of the visitiors.

Rimouski kept up the attack in the second period and scored four goals to seal the win.

Trainor scored his second of the night with Rimouski a man-up at 4:21 to make it 4-1. Gagné scored his first goal against the Sea Dogs at 6:02. Lavoie completed the hat-trick with two goals. His second of the night came at 18:30 of the second period.

He picked things up right into the third as well, with his final goal just 32 seconds into the frame.

Donaghey scored his first-ever QMJHL goal with a funny goal that trickled past Gusse to make it 7-2 at 2:40.

Gauthier converted again with the final goal of the night to make it 8-2 Rimouski at 15:58 of the third.
