Butch, McNeal Lead Jam to Victory

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (20-9) began their three-game east coast road trip with a victory in Maine as they defeated the Red Claws (18-13) 104-94 Friday night. Jerel McNeal and Brian Butch had stellar performances as McNeal scored a season-high 28 points, dished out a game-high seven assists and grabbed six rebounds, while Butch posted his 14^th double-double of the season with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Bakersfield opened the game up with a 21-6 run, courtesy of Butch's hot shooting from three-point land (3/3 3FG's). The Jam maintained their high level of basketball throughout the first and ended the quarter with 35-22 advantage. Maine put together a good run to start the second period and fought back as they cut the Jam's lead to just four points to end the half (51-47). Bakersfield gained momentum and control again in the third, outscoring the Red Claws 30-16. The Jam took an 81-63 lead into the final frame and never looked back.
In addition to McNeal's and Butch's great efforts, Renaldo Major had 18 points while Damion James added 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Maine was paced by Chris Wright who recorded a double-double of 27 points and 13 rebounds. Kris Joseph tallied 23 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Red Claws. Shelvin Mack had 14 points while Xavier Silas scored 10 points.
Bakersfield will continue on their east coast trip tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 9 when they meet the Springfield Armor. Tip-off scheduled at 4 p.m. PT.
