Bulls Defeat Generals in Belleville

January 24, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Oshawa Generals News Release

Belleville, Ontario - The Belleville Bulls were too much for the Generals to handle as they were defeated in front of 2,534 at the Yardmen Arena by the score of 4-1. Daniel Altshuller made the start for the Generals, making 31 saves in the loss. Lucas Lessio made his return to the lineup after being injured in late October, and tallied an assist. The Bulls responded with four unanswered goals to earn the win, and reclaimed the East Division lead from Oshawa.

The Generals opened the scoring in the first with Lucas Lessio getting involved in his first game back from his injury. As a Generals penalty was coming to an end, Lessio rushed up the ice towards Malcolm Subban but was tied up by a strong defensive play. The loose puck was picked up by Cole Cassels and chipped into the net for his 13th of the season at the 8:18 mark of the period.

Belleville responded shortly after at 9:54. An errant pass was picked off by the Bulls, and as they turned down the ice, the puck found its way on to the stick of Brendan Gaunce, who handcuffed Altshuller low glove side, tying the game at one apiece.

Belleville took the lead 5:18 into the period. Gaunce scored his second of the game in similar fashion to the first. From the left side circle, he let a quick wrist shot go, beating Altshuller and giving Belleville the lead. Belleville continued to buzz around the Generals net but Altshuller was up to the task, looking calm and making big saves to keep the score 2-1.

Even with Altshuller making several big saves, the Bulls scored twice in the third to increase their lead. A short-handed goal from Jake Worrad and a quick shot off the face-off from Joseph Cramarossa sealed the deal for the Generals, as the Bulls reclaimed the lead in the East Division race.

Belleville outshot the Generals 35-33.

The Generals continue on the road as they make their way to Sudbury on Friday January 25th, with the game starting at 7:35pm. They then play Sault Ste. Marie and Mississauga before returning home to the General Motors Centre as they host the Bulls on February 3rd. Puck drop is at 2:05pm.
