Albany Devils News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ -- Despite a 3-2 shootout loss against the Adirondack Phantoms Sunday at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall, the Albany Devils still skated away with four-out-of-a-possible-six points during their three-in-three weekend.
In front of a crowd of 5,135, Keith Kinkaid made 28 saves to go to 12-8-4 on the season. He made 11 saves in the first, 10 in the second, six in the third and one in overtime. He his now 6-1-1 in his last eight outings.
Albany, which defeated Adirondack, 4-3, Friday and lost at Springfield, 2-1 in a shootout, Saturday, came within 2:21 of falling to the Phantoms in regulation for only the second time in six games between the teams this season. However, captain Jay Leach tied the game with his second tally of the season on a play that included an assist by Steve Zalewski.
After a scoreless overtime period in which Albany owned a 6-1 shot advantage, the Phantoms won the shootout session 3-1 with goals from Jason Akeson, Tye McGinn and Danny Syvret. Matt Anderson scored for Albany.
Adirondack grabbed the game's first lead when Akeson, on a 2-on-1, had his centering pass deflect off an Albany player's stick and sneak through Kinkaid's five-hole. The power-play tally came at 18:05 of the first.
The Devils answered last in the second period with their own power-play goal. Anderson setup Phil DeSimone for a one-time blast from inside the right face-off circle. The tally was the third of the season for DeSimone.
Marcel Noebels reclaimed the Phantoms lead at 12:29 of the third on a set up by Akeson, setting the stage for Leach's late dramatics.
Adirondack's Cal Heeter earned the victory by stopping 25 of 27 shots. He improves to 7-11-1.
Overall, Albany goes to 15-13-1-8, while the Phantoms move to 17-19-1-1. The Devils own a 4-2 advantage in the Time Warner Cable Cup.
The Devils Northeast Division-set continues with a 7 pm outing against the Springfield Falcons Wednesday at Times Union Center. The night features $1 hot dogs and sodas. Fans who can't make it to the arena can follow along on 104.5 "The Team" ESPN Radio or online at ahllive.com.
