Houston registered its first shorthanded goal on the road this season, striking for the game's opening goal at 8:06. Stephane Veilleux scooped up a loose puck at center and led a two-on-one shorthanded effort into the Peoria zone. Veilleux dropped a pass to David McIntyre, who rifled the puck to the net. After Jake Allen made the initial save, Veilleux swept in for the rebound and gave the Aeros a 1-0 lead. Peoria countered at 14:37, as Derek Nesbitt dropped off a pass to the left-wing circle for Adam Cracknell. The Rivermen forward fired a wrist shot to the Houston net, beating goalie Matt Hackett for the 1-1 tie off his 11th goal of the season. Houston answered back to regain the lead at 15:52 off Jake Dowell's first tally of the season. Jason Zucker broke up a Rivermen pass at the Houston blue line, sending Dowell off on a breakaway. The Aeros center snapped a shorthanded shot between the legs of Allen, pushing Houston in front 2-1.
The Rivermen tied the game 2-2 at 5:05 of the second period with a power-play goal by Chris Porter. Cade Fairchild and Andy Murray worked the puck cross ice to Porter, who scored his second goal of the season with a wrist shot. Peoria claimed its first lead of the night with its second power-play goal of the night at 11:28. Fairchild dropped a pass off for Nesbitt in the high slot and he snapped his 14th goal of the year past Hackett for the 3-2 Peoria lead.
Peoria's TJ Hensick made it 4-2 Rivermen at 9:39 of the third period, swatting a loose puck in the Houston crease past Hackett. Hensick's tenth goal of the season was set up by Porter and Phil McRae. Defenseman Scott Ford added an empty-net goal at 18:55 for the 6-2 final score.
