SHERBROOKE, QC - Their three-game Quebec road swing came to an end as the Saint John Sea Dogs fell short against the Sherbrooke Phoenix 3-0 in Sunday's Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Sebastien Auger stopped 40 of 43 in the loss as Saint John sank to 18-24-0-0.

Alexandre Comtois had two and Vincent Deslauriers responded for Sherbrooke. Jacob Gervais-Chouinard stopped all 23 shots in the win as the Phoenix climbed to 12-25-2-4.

Saint John had a couple of early chances in the first half of the opening period with a 3-on-2 chance and a great passing play by Maxime Villemaie, Jakub Izacky and Stephen Anderson and a quick backhand by Jason Cameron both turned away by Chouinard.

Auger played his role as the most important penalty killer in spectacular fashion near the midway point of the frame as Sherbrooke had the extra man. Sprawled across the goal line, Auger kept the puck from crossing the line with about four back-to-back in-tight chances for the Phoenix as a scrambled took place in front.

Deslauriers broke the deadlock just shy of 30 minutes into the game. At 9:33 of the second, Deslauriers fired the perfect shot to beat Auger and open the scoring.

Shots in the second were 18-6 for Sherbrooke.

Auger got right back to work in the earl goings of the third, robbing the Phoenix of an open net by powering from one side to the other to make the save.

Comtois made the Sea Dogs pay with a power play goal at 1:05 of the third to make it 2-0 Sherbrooke.

Comtois wasn't finished as he scored an almost identical goal less than three minutes later at 3:57.

The final score was 3-0 as the Chouinard stood tall all game.

The Sea Dogs remain on the road this week with a contest against the Moncton Wildcats in a make-up contest on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. Fans can catch all the action with Tim Roszell on News 88.9 FMor on the TELUS QMJHL Webcast .
