CHICAGO, Ill. (Jan. 8, 2013) - The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Tuesday that Samuel Archer is the winner of the Fire's fifth annual Open Tryout. The Rutgers University product traveled from New York and emerged from a group of 150 players to capture the club's annual Open Tryout. Archer will join the Fire for the first phase of preseason training camp in Ave Maria, Fla. beginning Sunday, Jan. 20.

"Winning the open tryout means everything to me," said Archer. "It's always been my ultimate goal and dream to play professionally. This is a good step on my journey to becoming a professional player and I'm ready to show what I've got."

"Many skillful players emerged during the two day tryout," said Chicago Fire Academy Director Larry Sunderland. "Sam's composure and skill with the ball were evident throughout the process. We're excited to have Sam join the first team during training camp later this month."

A product of Queens, N.Y., the 23-year-old forward was one of 150 players who attended the club's annual Open Tryout. A holder of dual American and Jamaican passports, Archer is a product of the New York Red Bulls Academy system and was a member of the U.S. U-17 National Team pool.
