January 3, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell 4-1 to the visiting Barrie Colts in front of another sellout crowd of 3,145 at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Thursday night.
The first period saw the IceDogs fall behind 3:49 in as Barrie scored on the powerplay to make it 1-0. The teams would exchange chances throughout much of the period and Mack Lemmon would earn a penalty shot with just over two minutes left in the period, but Barrie starter Mathias Niederberger would be up to the task stopping Lemmon to keep it at 1-0 after one. Shots after 20 minutes favoured Barrie 11-8.
The second period would see both teams get their chances, but both goaltenders would be on their game to keep the score at 1-0 for the majority of the period. Unfortunately for the IceDogs, Barrie would add a goal late in the second to extend their lead to 2-0 after 40 minutes. Shots after two continued to favour Barrie 25-17.
The IceDogs would see their deficit stretched to three 3:46 into the third as Barrie would pick up their second powerplay goal of the night to make it 3-0. The IceDogs would not let up despite the deficit as Steven Shipley would add a powerplay goal of his own at the 7:56 mark of the period to make it 3-1. The IceDogs would continue to press to further tighten the game up, but they would not be able to get any closer and Barrie would add an empty netter to make it a 4-1 final.
The IceDogs will hit the road tomorrow afternoon as they head to Mississauga for a Friday night showdown against another Central Division rival.
The IceDogs will then return home on Sunday afternoon when they play host to the Sarnia Sting at 2pm. Tickets for Sunday afternoon and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
