IceGators Fall in Huntsville, 5-4

Huntsville, Alabama--The Louisiana IceGators were hoping Santa Claus would bring a post-Christmas comeback against the Huntsville Havoc. He delivered one to the Von Braun Center, as the Cardiac Crocodilians fought back from a 3-0 hole early in the game to tie the score. However, Huntsville regained the lead late in the game and never relinquished it, defeating the IceGators 5-4. Brett Liscomb led the Havoc by scoring two goals and recording an assist against his former team. Louisiana's Robert Short picked up a hat trick during the contest.
The IceGators (12-7-1) return to the ice Friday night when they host the Pensacola IceFlyers (12-7-2) in the Cajundome. The puck will be dropped at 7:05 P. M.
"This one's tough," said IceGators Coach Kevin Kaminski. "We scored enough to win, but we have to be better as a five-man unit on defense. We have to take pride in our one-on-one battles and eliminate turnovers. Turnovers cost us at least three goals tonight." Kaminski also called out his goalie. "Jesse (Kallechy) needs to be better," he said. "I'm sure he'd like to have those three goals back."
Liscomb gave the Havoc (8-14-1) the early lead with a goal midway through the first period. He assisted on Chapen LeBlond's goal before scoring another of his own to give Huntsville a 3-0 lead midway through the second period. That lead would evaporate before the second intermission. Robert Short put the IceGators on the board with 6:23 remaining in the period. Less than two minutes later, Marc-André Carré added another goal. Short tied the game off of assists from Denny Kearney and Matt Robertson with 2:18 remaining in the frame. Huntsville regained the lead early in the third period thanks to goals from Justin Fox and Kyle Laughlin. Short completed his hat trick and cut the IceGators' deficit to one on a powerplay midway through the frame. Eric Tallent and Kearney assisted on the play.
Kaminski is also disappointed by his team's play on offense. "Our special teams have been awesome lately, but our even strength play is horrendous," he opined. "That's what's costing us game. Our first priority needs to be stingy defense first, but we also need to have urgency all the time--especially in our even strength situations."
