
Chukars Coaching Staff Set

Idaho Falls, ID - The Kansas City Royals have officially announced the coaching staff for the Idaho Falls Chukars. For the 2013 campaign, Omar Ramirez will be returning to the falls for his second season with the Chukars. Joining Omar will be two new staff members; pitching coach Steve Merriman, and hitting coach, Damon Hollins.
Ramirez will be leading the Chukars in 2013 in what will be his second season at the managerial role. He led Idaho Falls in 2012 to a combined record of 35-41. Before joining the coaching ranks with the Royals, Ramirez was drafted in the 31st round in 1990 by the Cleveland Indians. He played eight combined seasons for the Indians and Houston Astros before retiring in 2001. Ramirez resides in his hometown of Santiago, Dominican Republic.
New to the Chukars, and Kansas City Royals is pitching coach Steve Merriman. Merriman most recently was a pitching coach in the Arizona Diamondbacks system from 2007-09. Also new to the Chukars will be hitting coach Damon Hollins. Hollins, who was the hitting coach for the Wilmington Blue Rocks last season, will be entering his fourth season as a coach in the Royals system. Prior to coaching, Hollins played in the Majors for the Atlanta Braves (1998-2004), Los Angeles Dodgers (1998), and Tampa Bay Rays (2005-2006). He was the 4th overall selection by the Atlanta Braves in 1992.
