Dogs Fall Short in PEI

CHARLOTTETOWN - The Saint John Sea Dogs fell to the Prince Edward Island Rocket 6-3 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Sunday afternoon.

Stephen Anderson and Aidan Kelly each had a goal and an assist and Stephen MacAulay added a single in the loss. Alex Fournier made 36 stops on 41 shots as the Sea Dogs fell to 16-17-0-0. Kevin Gagne was held off the scoresheet for the first time in 10 games.

Josh Currie had a six-point night for the Rocket with two goals and four assists, Ben Duffy had two goals and an assist and Victor Provencher had a goal and two helpers to lead the Rocket to the win. Alex Micallef added a single and Antoine Bibeau stopped 23 of 26 in the win.

Justin Dickinson and Patrick McGrath dropped the gloves for the first of three tilts in a spirited match just 3:17 into the game.

Ryan Tesink and Josh Currie mixed it up in the second fight on the card at 7:39, as two players who can, but don't usually mix it up.

Just six seconds later Oliver Cooper and Jimmy Oligny lined up for the third and final bout in the first period.

Duffy got the Rocket on the board with a marker at 15:50 of the first. The goal, his 122nd career marker, made some history for the Rocket cementing him with the all-time Rocket goal scoring record.

The veteran Rocket forward wasn't done in the first, beating Fournier at 19:49 to make it 2-0 PEI.

Shots in the first were 11-4 in the Rocket's favour.

The Rocket continued the onslaught in the second, outshooting the Sea Dogs 14-3 leading up to the goal that made it 3-0. The goal was scored by Provencher at 12:36 with Currie picking up his third assist.

Anderson took a great pass from Kelly to head up the ice on a break away. He roofed the puck over Bibeau on the break for his third goal of the year at 13:21.

The Sea Dogs resurgence was cut short with another Rocket goal in the final minute of a period. Micallef scored at 19:25 to make it 4-1.

Currie grabbed a shorthanded goal at 1:35 of the third, giving the Rocket a four-goal lead.

Kelly cut the lead to three at 4:24 with his second goal of the game. Matthew Highmore and Noah Zilbert grabbed the assists.

MacAulay got the Sea Dogs their third goal to make it 5-3 at 17:29 of the final frame. Anderson and Ryan Tesink

The PEI captain added an empty net goal to make it 6-3 Rocket and notch his sixth point of the game.
