Game Rewind

Friday, November 30th @ Toledo Walleye (Toledo 3-Kalamazoo 2-Overtime)

Toledo, OH- After a Max Nicastro (1st) tied the game with one-tenth of a second remaining, the Toledo Walleye (12-7-0-1) kept momentum on their side, as Wes O'Neill (5th) grabbed the winner 3:06 into overtime to escape with a 3-2 victory Friday night at the Huntington Center against the Kalamazoo Wings (9-9-1-0)

Setting the tone for the K-Wings, Nick Sirota snuck into the high slot 7:15 into the contest and beat Jordan Pearce for the forward's fourth goal of the season.

Kory Karlander (5th) helped the K-Wings take advantage of their lone power-play of the period, cashing in on a rebound midway in the stanza with a back hander to extend his point streak to five games.

Crashing the net in the third period, Toledo's Luke Glendening continued his scoring assault on the ECHL netting his team-best 11th of the season early in the period to cut the K-Wings lead to a single goal.

Making his Walleye debut, Nicastro tied the game by using a screen to beat Joel Martin, who finished the game with a K-Wings season-high 41 saves.

O'Neill capped off the come-from-behind heroics with a slap shot from between the circles that was setup by a drop pass from Joey Martin.

Saturday, December 1st @ Fort Wayne Komets (Evansville 3-Kalamazoo 2)

Evansville, IN- Goals in the final three minutes from Brett Lysak (10th) and Eric Kattelus (5th) were not enough for the Kalamazoo Wings (9-10-1-1), as the Evansville IceMen (7-14-0-1) shook off a late comeback bid by Kalamazoo for a 3-2 victory Saturday night at the Ford Center.

An evenly played first period became slanted towards Evansville late in the stanza, as the IceMen struck twice in a span of 33 seconds. Josh Beaulieu (9th) put the IceMen on the board by battling in front of the K-Wings net and knocking in a loose puck 15:28 into the period.

Utilizing a Cody Beach screen, Dan Mahovsky notched his fifth-goal of the season with a slap shot from the left circle to push the Evansville lead to two goals.

Scoring in a similar fashion as he did to start the game, Beaulieu (10th) posted the eventual game-winner early in the third period.

Winning a mad scramble in front of the IceMen's net, Lysak reached around two defensemen and pushed the puck over the goal line with 2:14 remaining in regulation to break up to the shutout of Rob Madore.

Pulling Joel Martin for an extra attacker, Kalamazoo inched closer with 28 seconds left in the game with rebound marker from Kattelus.

Fast Forward

Kalamazoo will conclude a three-game road trip this Friday, December 7th with a 7:35 p.m. encounter against the Cincinnati Cyclones. On the season, the K-Wings 0-2-0-0 against the Cyclones, who starts the week in second place in the North Division.

Returning home, the K-Wings will welcome the Toledo Walleye to Wings Stadium on Saturday, December 8th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off WZUU's Largest Fish Fry in Michigan. On the season, Kalamazoo is 1-2-1-0 against Toledo, who starts the week in first place in the North Division.

Kalamazoo begins the week on a three-game winless (0-2-0-1) streak. The three-game streak ties the K-Wings longest winless streak of the season.

Killing Time

Kalamazoo penalty killing has been effective. Dating back to November 23rd, the K-Wings have killed off their opponents last 14 power-play chances.

The Obscure Stat of the Week

It has been awhile since the K-Wings (9-10-1-0) have had a record below .500. The last time Kalamazoo did not have a winning record was back on January 12, 2011, when the K-Wings were 14-15-2-2, a span of 131 games.
