
Energy Fall to Sioux Falls in Opener 107-98

Sioux Falls, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Iowa Energy 107-98 Saturday night in the season opener for both teams. Iowa's starting backcourt of Chris Wright and Mustapha Farrakhan led the Energy with 20 points each, while Denver Nuggets assignee Quincy Miller added 17 points.
Both teams struggled from the field in the early going as Sioux Falls led 18-16 after one quarter. The shooting improved in the second quarter and Sioux Falls took a 43-42 lead into the locker room.
Iowa took a lead at 53-50 on a pair of layups by Wright, but the Skyforce used a trio of three-pointers late in the 3rd quarter to take a six point lead into the final stanza. Sioux Falls extended the lead to 12 points in the quarter, but an Energy rally that featured two deep jumpers by Farrakhan got the visitors to within three in the final minutes. Sioux Falls iced the game at the free throw line late, hitting all six of their attempts in the final 1:11.
The Energy made only 16 of 32 free throws in the game, a paltry 50%. Sioux Falls made 21 of 27 from the charity stripe.
Wright led the Energy with 9 assists while center Ben Strong added 10 rebounds.
Troy Hudson scored a game-high 25 points and Andrew Goudelock added 23 for Sioux Falls.. Jarvis Varnado added 11 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks.
