Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan - One shot in the overtime period was all the Muskegon Lumberjacks needed as a defensive battle went into overtime with Lumberjacks being able to snap their short three-game losing streak on an overtime goal 1:49 into the extra session to give Muskegon a 1-0 victory tonight at the L.C. Walker Arena.
The Gamblers (9-9-3, 21 points) totaled 29 shots on goal in the game, but could come up with no answer for Lumberjacks Goaltender Kevin Lindskoug (9-6-1) as they were shutout for the first time this season. Forward Sheldon Dries led the Gamblers with five shots on goal, and Goaltender Mike Rotolo (7-7-1) stopped 32 of 33 shots in the loss.
The Lumberjacks (12-7-1, 25 points) totaled 33 shots in the contest, while Lindskoug earned his third shutout of the season in 16 starts. The back-and-forth contest went into overtime a scoreless draw when the Lumberjacks offense finally came alive at the right time. With 3:11 left in overtime, Forward Cullen Hurley snapped a wrist shot past the glove side of Rotolo to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 victory on home ice, his fourth of the season. Joe Cox tallied the lone assist on the goal, and Hurley led the Lumberjacks with six shots on goal in the winning effort.
Green Bay was 0-2 on the power play tonight, while the Lumberjacks only had one power play opportunity in the game and did not convert on it. The Lumberjacks are now 2-1-0 this season against Green Bay with all the games being played in Muskegon.
