The Sea Dogs had the best chance in the early going as Huberdeau fed Ryan Tesink cutting to the net. Tesink tried to snipe one past Honzik at the five-minute mark, but Honzik stood tall with a great pad save.
MacAulay drew first blood for the Sea Dogs on a great play set up by Huberdeau and Durepos. Durepos pinched to keep the puck in deep and fed Huberdeau in the corner. Huberdeau hit MacAulay skating towards the net where he snapped a low shot beating Honzik at 8:05.
Huberdeau's assist on the play was his 144th career assist, giving him sole possession of the record and taking over the honour from Michael Kirkpatrick.
Durepos took his turn to set up a play, feeding a lonely Huberdeau in the right-wing faceoff circle with Honzik down and out. Huberdeau poked the puck across the line at 11:25 for his 13th of the year to make it 2-0 Sea Dogs.
MacAulay potted his second of the game and 13th of the year on a Cape Breton turnover, beating Honzik with a rocket of a wrist shot over his left shoulder to make it 3-0 with only 4.1 seconds left in the first.
Gagne made a fantastic move at the point to get past the Cape Breton defender and fired a shot that wen through the mesh, giving the Sea Dogs a 4-0 lead at 4:18 of the second period.
Culek ensured the Sea Dogs wouldn't get away scot-free as he stole a clearing attempt and beat Auger at 12:59 of the middle frame.
Shots in the second were 13-5 Cape Breton.
The third period passed without much action. Shots in the frame were 9-5 in favour of Saint John, but no scoring was to be had.
