Tired Sea Dogs Fall Short in Boisbriand

BOISBRIAND, QC - The Saint John Sea Dogs were playing in their third game in as many nights and fell to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 8-1 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Sunday.

Ryan Tesink scored the lone goal and his seventh in as many games to set a new mark for goals in consecutive games for the Sea Dogs. Sebastien Auger stopped 35 of 44 shots in the loss. Saint John's record dropped to 10-11-1-1 with the defeat.

Danick Martel had a hat trick and Marcus Hinds had two goals as Marc-Olivier Roy, Stefan Matteau and Christopher Clapperton had singles for the Armada. Etienne Marcoux made 17 saves on 18 shots as Blainville now sit at 15-5-0-2 after the win.

Blainville-Boisbriand drew first blood as Hinds beat Auger at 6:25.

Just before the midway point of the first, Gagne made a great defensive play to check the stick of Samuel Hodhod directly in front of Auger, foiling a dangerous chance.

Oliver Cooper had the best opportunity for the Sea Dogs as he stole the puck from Marcoux and tried a wraparound, getting a second chance with Marcoux shutting the door just past 11 minutes in.

Auger stood tall in the second half of the period, making some great saves on excellent chances for the Armada to keep the Dogs in the game.

The shots at the end of the second were 13-5 in favour of the Armada.

The Sea Dogs took some momentum early in the second, with a 2-on-1 chance with Huberdeau and Tesink, who used a couple of chances to score his 11 of the season and 7th in as many games. The streak breaks a record for the Sea Dogs franchise, as Tesink passed Scott Howes and Michael Kirkpatrick with the longest consecutive goal-scoring streak. The goal came just 50 seconds into the second frame. Roy beat a semi-screened Auger from the slot at 4:47 while on the power play. They continued the onslaught as Martel scored just 22 seconds later on a scrummed play in front of Auger to make it 3-1 Armada.

Tesink used a great burst of speed to break in behind the Armada defence, but Marcoux stuck out the left pad to stop the breakaway chance around the nine-minute mark.

Matteau beat Auger on the breakaway to make it 4-1 at 14:49.

Stephen Anderson had a great chance as Marcus Cuomo found him after an Armada turnover, forcing Marcoux to make a fantastic glove save.

Things started off with the Sea Dogs in tough in the third as Clapperton made it 5-1 Armada just 21 seconds in.

Martel put Blainville further ahead 6-1 at 7:20. Auger had no chance on the 2-on-1 play started by Matteau.

Gagne had a chance for the Sea Dogs on a Huberdeau wraparound chance with Marcoux shutting the door around the 11-minute mark.

Hinds scored his second of the game with Auger down and out and screened by four or five players jumbled in front of the net at 18:41 giving the Armada a 7-1 lead.

Martel put in a hat-trick goal on a breakaway with only three seconds left, making the final 8-1.
