OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce they have acquired second-year veteran defenseman Matias Cleland today in a trade with the Waterloo Black Hawks. In exchange, Waterloo receives second-year Lancers blueliner Victor Newell.

A native of Longmont, Colorado, Cleland has tallied one goal, 11 assists and 12 points in 44 career games in Waterloo. Already committed to the University of New Hampshire, the 5'11", 185-pound defenseman is coming off his first USHL campaign last season in which he notched one goal, 10 points and 62 penalty minutes to go along with an even plus/minus rating. In just three games this season, Cleland has already registered two assists, seven penalty minutes and a minus-4 rating.

Prior to joining the Black Hawks last season, Cleland spent the 2010-2011 campaign with the Colorado Thunderbirds Under-18 team where he tallied five goals, 26 and 31 points to go along with 51 penalty minutes. Originally selected 44th overall (Round 3) by Waterloo in the 2010 USHL Futures Draft, Cleland will wear No. 5 when he suits up for the Lancers this weekend.

Omaha (1-3-0, 2 pts.) returns to action Friday evening when the Lancers head to Buccaneer Arena in Des Moines for the team's first showdown with the Bucs this season. Due to scheduling conflicts, Friday's game will not be available on 1290 AM KOIL and will only be available online via www.fasthockey.com . Tickets for Omaha's home opener at the Ralston Arena on Friday, October 26 are currently on sale by calling 800-440-3741 or by visiting www.ralstontix.com .
