Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (OCTOBER 3, 2012) - The Winston-Salem Dash have been nominated for two 2012 MiLBY Awards, including the "Team of the Year" honor, and fans can vote for the Dash by visiting MiLB.com.

The Dash recorded a regular-season record of 87-51, which was good for the best record among all 120 teams in full-season minor league baseball. In fact, Winston-Salem's .630 winning percentage is better than every team in Major League Baseball. The club's 48-23 mark at BB&T Ballpark was also the best home record in full-season minor league baseball.

Winston-Salem posted its second-best record since joining the Carolina League as a charter member in 1945. The Dash took home the Southern Division's first- and second-half titles. In the playoffs, Winston defeated Myrtle Beach in the Southern Division Championship Series before falling to Lynchburg in the Mills Cup Championship Series three games to one.

Throughout the 2012 campaign, 20 players who donned the Dash's purple made their way to Double-A Birmingham or Triple-A Charlotte. First baseman Dan Black earned the Carolina League's Most Valuable Player award, while skipper Tommy Thompson took home the circuit's Manager of the Year honor. In addition, five Winston-Salem hitters appeared on the CL's year-end All-Star roster.

The Dash also have a chance to win the "Home Run of the Year" thanks to Keenyn Walker's leadoff home run July 20 against the Frederick Keys. Walker's long ball came against Dylan Bundy, one of the top prospects in the minor leagues. Bundy, Baltimore's first-round pick in 2011, is now on the Orioles' active roster. The White Sox top pick in the 2011 MLB Draft, Walker blasted that homer in his first career at-bat inside BB&T Ballpark.

Fans can vote once a day through Monday, October 22, and there are 12 different categories available for voting. Last year, two Dash alumni earned MiLBY awards. Nick Ciolli's homer-saving catch over the right field wall at BB&T Ballpark, which was featured on multiple ESPN shows, was the "Play of the Year," while current White Sox hurler Addison Reed was the "Reliever of the Year" after passing through Winston-Salem en route to the big leagues late last season.

The Winston-Salem Dash are the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. To purchase tickets and for more information, please call 336-714-2287 or visit www.wsdash.com .
