Omaha Lancers News Release
Indianapolis, Ind. - Dalton Izyk registered an 18-save shutout Saturday evening as the Indiana Ice blanked the Omaha Lancers 2-0 in front of 1,198 fans at the Pan American Arena. Following the setback, Omaha fell to 0-2 on the young season.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the opening period despite a combined 12 shots on goal. Omaha goaltender Alex Lyon turned away all nine Ice shots he faced in the first period while Izyk registered three saves on the three Lancers shots that came his way in the opening frame.
Indiana broke the scoreless deadlock early in the second period when a loose puck scramble in the slot landed on the stick of Brian Morgan who made no mistake in depositing his first career USHL marker. Alex Smith and Austin Hervey assisted on the even strength goal netted 4:07 into the middle frame, which proved to be the eventual game-winner. The Ice then doubled their lead late in the second period when a two-on-one between Austin Ortega and Robbie Baillargeon resulted in Ortega's second goal of the season. Baillargeon garnered the only assist on the five-on-five goal notched 17:56 into period two.
Izyk and the Indiana defense preserved the shutout in the third period turning aside the seven shots on goal the Lancers were able to generate in the final frame. With the win, Izyk improved to 1-1 on the year and earned his second career USHL shutout. Meanwhile, Lyon registered his second straight 30-save effort turning in a masterful performance recording 31 saves on 33 Indiana shots.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday evening when they travel to Sioux Falls for a 7:05 PM showdown with the Stampede.
