Red Bulls Earn 1-1 Road Tie against New England Revolution

FOXBOROUGH, MA - Joel Lindpere tallied his fifth goal of the season in second half stoppage time, but the New York Red Bulls settled for a 1-1 tie against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium Saturday night.

The Red Bulls stayed in third place in the Eastern Conference, moving to 50 points off a 14-8-8 record following its third match in eight days. New York returns home next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 29 and takes on Toronto FC at 7:00 PM. Both teams looked to get control of the game in the opening half. In the 16 th minute, Revolution forward Diego Fagundez tested Bill Gaudette by the right post with a shot that the goalkeeper parried away. Soon after, Gaudette went to his right to parry a Lee Nguyen 24-yard free kick out of danger. On the other end in the 24th minute, midfielder Dax McCarty volleyed one wide of the goal frame.

With three minutes left to play in a scoreless first half, Red Bulls forward Sebastien Le Toux curled a free kick high. Seconds later, Gaudette again came up trumps for the Red Bulls, tipping a Jerry Bengtson blast that eventually smashed off the crossbar.

In the second half, the sides searched for the game's first goal and in the 52nd minute, Lindpere left-footed attempt was spilled by Bobby Shuttleworth before the Revolution goalkeeper gathered the ball. Twenty minutes later, Tim Cahill got on the end of a Le Toux corner and Shuttleworth caught his header. The Red Bulls were reduced to 10 men when Connor Lade earned his second yellow card of the match and was ejected from the game.

Despite being a man down, the Red Bulls took the lead in the 91st minute.

Wilman Conde swung a cross from the left flank that Cahill got a head on, beating a leaping Shuttleworth. Lindpere was first to the loose ball and nodded it into the empty net.

New York was denied the full three points in the last minute of stoppage time with a final offensive surge from the hosts. Kelyn Rowe cut it to Ryan Guy on the right wing and the Revolution midfielder hit a cross that Darrius Barnes headed home.

The Red Bulls were missing forward Thierry Henry due to suspension and defender Roy Miller because of a groin injury. Midfielder Rafa Marquez left the game in the 35th minute due to right hamstring tightness.
