Pats Gameday Preview
Head-to-Head
The Pats opened their 2012-13 Regular Season on the road last night in Brandon with a 3-2 loss to the Wheat Kings. The game put special teams on display with 13 powerplays distributed between the squads. Jens Meilleur gave the Wheaties the victory with a third period powerplay goal, the fourth powerplay goal on the night. Matt Hewitt made 30 saves in the loss.
Lead Up: Pats Look Strong in Loss
Despite the loss, the Pats showed a lot of jump in their first game of the 2012-13 season. Returning Pats Dyson Stevenson and Morgan Klimchuk both scored goals in the contest. The powerplay featured a five forward set on the first unit and it paid dividends with the Pats cashing in twice on the man advantage. Braden Christoffer garnered praise for his solid two way play while youngsters like Adam Brooks and Bryar Ortynski showed they belong in the WHL.
Big Debut
Of all the players making their Pats debut last night, Emil Sylvegard was the only one to tally any points, his two powerplay assists.
Another New Face
The day of their 2012-13 debut, the Pats added yet another new player to the fold. Adam Rossignol comes to Regina from the Swift Current Broncos after he split 2011-12 with the Broncos and Kootenay. Rossignol had an immediate impact despite not practicing with his new linemates. The 6'0" forward could be a great sleeper pick up by Chad Lang.
Waiting to Make a Debut
There are still three new Pats who have yet to take to the ice. Henry Hardarson, Griffin Mumby, and Patrick D'Amico (injured) all sat out the Pats first game of the season.
