Indiana Fever News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever will complete the remainder of its three-game road trip without two of its starters - Briann January and Shavonte Zellous. January and Zellous will not accompany the team for games at Connecticut (tonight) and Washington (9/21). Both sustained blows to the head during Monday night's game at Minnesota and have returned to Indianapolis for evaluation and treatment.
Both players will continue to be evaluated by Fever medical staff and will be day-to-day as the team prepares for the WNBA Playoffs which begin next week.
The Fever, 20-11 and a No. 2 seed in the upcoming playoffs, has three games remaining in its regular season before hosting Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals next Thursday (9/27) or Friday (9/28). Zellous, averaging 7.5 points per game, has been a starter in all 31 games this season. January, Indiana's point guard, has averaged 10.3 points and a team-high 3.9 assists while starting the past 26 games.
In Monday's loss against the defending champion Lynx, Zellous was treated by Fever trainer Todd Champlin after a collision near the end of the first half, and did not return after halftime. January absorbed a similar injury with 4:47 remaining in the contest.
A WNBA playoff participant in eight straight seasons and nine times since 2002, the Indiana Fever has advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals four times in the past seven years. The Fever celebrates Fan Appreciation Night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse when Indiana hosts the Tulsa Shock in its regular season finale on Sunday, Sept. 23 (6:00 p.m.). Indiana will host the Atlanta Dream in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Thursday, Sept. 27 or Friday, Sept. 28.
